Designing your own house is most definitely one of the most exciting, yet stressful things you can do. However, amongst your emotions and liaising with architects and construction companies in Bahrain, it can be easy to lose sight of your original thoughts and forget about the small elements that truly make a house a home.

Al Manaratain is a specialist building material manufacturing and construction company in Bahrain, with over 60 years of experience under our belts. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking company, our factory is equipped with state of the art equipment to help us create our well-known products; and caters to the production capacity for pavers, blocks, hollow core precast, ready mix concrete, washed sand, cast-concrete artificial stone, and much more. With all of that in mind, we’d like to think that we have a good idea of the things you can’t forget when designing your own home and the process of building in Bahrain…

Create A Wishlist

At the very start of your designing your own home journey, our number one recommendation would be to create a wish list of things that you would absolutely love to feature in your home. This could be minor things from extra cupboard space in the kitchen, all the way through to indoor skylight and outdoor decorative floors. As we mentioned before, it can be easy to lose sight of your original vision and the things you wanted when designing your home. However, what you also need to understand when designing your own home is that not everything will go to plan and compromises will need to be made, listen to the experts around you; they will always have your best interests and budgets on their minds.

Storage

Large amounts of storage space are a must in any home, and often when designing your own house it can be forgotten. We would suggest sitting down with your plans at hand and walking through you plans room by room. Have a think about what each room entails and what will be in each room. For example, of course, you will need storage for your clothes in your bedroom, or you could even be lucky enough to have a dressing room, but think about the storage you genuinely need. Do you have lots of shoes that will require large amounts of shelving? Or do you have one too many pairs of sunglasses that will require a storage draw all to themselves? Take the time to design bespoke storage around your home so that it can be the most practical and effective place for you.

Lighting

If you did not know already, lighting is key to designing a brilliant house. Wherever you can we would recommend thinking about where you can bring in natural lighting in your home. There are also several benefits that you should be aware of:

  • Boosts vitamin D. When exposed to sunlight, the skin absorbs vitamin D, a critical nutrient that prevents bone loss and reduces the risk of heart disease, weight gain, and various cancers.
  • Wards off seasonal depression
  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces health risks of fluorescent lighting.

Not only is light beneficial for your health, but it also allows the room to feel more spacious, which of course is every home owner’s dream when building in Bahrain.

Your Interior Design Taste Will Change

When designing your home it is important to remember that through the years your interior design taste will change, and could even change quite substantially. That is why we would recommend opting for timeless interior design trends around your home where you can. Perhaps you could also take up and coming interior design trends and select elements that you feel would work for you and your style for years to come.
